Ajax Tickets

Ajax are one of the heavy hitters from the golden age of football. They are one of the five clubs who have earned the privilege to take the European Cup home and keep it forever, having been consecutive European Champions between 1971-1973.

They even won the Dutch Treble in 1972, and they are currently the only ever team to both keep the European Cup and win a European Treble. Only Manchester United have also won the Treble plus the Intercontinental Cup in the same season. United had to wait until 1999 to achieve this, Ajax managed it in the 1971/72 season. They have won all three major European trophies at least once in their history. This admirable record means that Ajax are giants in Holland and on the world stage, and that Ajax football tickets are among the most coveted in world sports.

Founded in Amsterdam in 1900, Ajax was the second attempt at forming a football club after the Footh-Ball Club Ajax failed in 1894. A few years later, in 1911, Ajax were promoted to the Dutch top flight with Jack Kirwan, their first official coach, guiding the assault. Ajax’s march on the big time had begun, and the next 90 years would bring glory to Amsterdam and the club would drive people to buy Ajax tickets in huge numbers.

Ajax‘ original wooden stadium was humorously referred to as The Stadium. The team later played in the 1928 Summer Olympics stadium in Amsterdam. Until 1996, Ajax played at De Meer Stadion in east Amsterdam, before moving to the Amsterdam ArenA. The Arena’s retractable roof was among Europe’s earliest, but has received criticism for its tendency to create unfavourable conditions for the growth of the grass surface.

Ajax’s recent form has been solid, but there is room for improvement. In the 2006-07 season they enjoyed success with manager Henk ten Cate running the show. Ajax won the Johan Cruijff Shield with a 3-1 win over bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven. They also won the Dutch Cup final 8-9 on penalties after drawing 1-1 after extra time. Ajax managed to close a 10 point deficit from PSV in the league, but they lost the title on goal difference on the last day of the season to their Eindhoven nemesis.
